Every comfort has been included in this purpose designed guesthouse, and there is plenty to explore both on and off the property. Your hosts Peter and Betty both have conservationist backgrounds and will be happy to answer any of your questions.

Rammed earth walls and acoustic wall panels accentuate the ambience of this gorgeous guest house. This is the place to be if you're looking to relax, and enjoy the sounds of nature .

The kitchen is equipped with all the necessities including a full size fridge and freezer combination, coffee machine and gas range. A Webber bbq is positioned on the deck outside for you to enjoy.

This view is yours entirely, and apart from the wildlife you can enjoy it all day long.

The bathroom has been fitted with a rain shower outlet and a built-in washing machine for your comfort

We have built a guesthouse that marries the old with the new - an eclectic and comfortable combination of retro and modern.

The kangaroos at Wedgetaildown are part of the family. They know they are in a sanctuary and that people won't harm them. Outside the sanctuary is a different thing and that's why our wildlife sanctuary is so important.

This Koala is eating our favourite tree but what can you do? Their food resources are scarce and they are constantly adapting to new sources of eucalyptus trees. Ask Peter about their future on Kangaroo Island and what we can do to keep them healthy.

This is a fully grown male Rosenbergs Goanna an endangered species - it measures around 1.2m. These are a bold and inquisitive reptile and they are not frightened of humans. This one has since disappeared but his offspring live on and we have a number of families on the property.

The lagoon on Wedgetaildown is its own ecosystem attracting Black Swan, Crane and Herron, Egrets, Black Duck to name a few. It's also the home of the Yabbie and the Marron. The marron are an invasive species.

Witnessing a rare Echidna Train is one of the most fascinating aspects of Australian fauna. This group are all following a single female to work out who will have the strongest genome to mate with. How do they mate? That's another story!

Wedgetaildown is surrounded by farming properties but luckily there are more than a thousand acres in this area that provide refuge to the Eastern Grey Kangaroo subspecies and the Tamar Wallaby as well as other species of Fauna.

The rare and endangered Glossie Black Cockatoo suffered with the fires in 2019 but fortunately there are over 400 of them left and toward sunset you are likely to see them on the property. Special nesting boxes have been made for them on the property

This is known as Tates Grass Tree and is different than the mainland variety of Xanthorrhoea Semiplana growing much bigger and with a trunk. This Tateana subspecies tough getting scarce is spectacular and on occasions during winter we will burn one that may be struggling due to the encroachment of farming on the Island, This burning kills off disease such as Phytophera and gives the often 150 year old plant a chance to survive.

The Eleanor River runs through the middle of Wedgetaildown, it is a peaceful place, a place where you can take a look at life and see what is important.

The magnificent Wedgetail Eagle with a wingspan of up to 2 metres is Australia largest bird of prey, the 3rd largest eagle in the world. You will likely see them soaring on the thermals looking for food with eyesight that is 4-5 times better than ours.

There are beaches tucked away, accessible for some travellers with four wheel drive vehicles. These places are best reached after consultation with local people - they are unique in every aspect and you could likely be the only person there.

A lone fisherman at Cape Kersaint on the South Coast, one of the many places you can visit on the rugged coastline.

Beaches close to Wedgetaildown are often empty and the fury of the Southern Ocean will sweep artefacts and driftwood ashore. Sometimes you can walk kilometres without seeing a single footprint bar those of native birds such as the tiny Hooded plover.

The spectacular Remarkable Rocks are just 40 minutes from Wedgetaildown Accommodation The solid granite formations bubbled up from beneath the earths surface hundreds of millions of years ago and were carved by relentless rain, wind and sea activity.

You will feel very pampered in this luxurious setting and if you want to do some yoga we have mats and blocks and stretches for you to use. We can also arrange for a qualified Masseuse with sufficient notice.

Once a beautiful old red gum goes on providing, firstly as shade and habitat for birds and now a home for a myriad of other creatures.

Imagine yourself sipping on a crisp chardonnay under the shade of this beautiful red-gum right in front of your accommodation.
